When
do you need UltraClear Biological Pond
Clarifier-Professional Strength?
Use Ultra Clear Biological Pond
Clarifier-Professional Strength for treating
small ponds with severe clarity problems or
large size ponds that require higher doses of
the regular strength Ultra Clear Biological Pond
Clarifier. Professional Strength Ultra Clear
Biological Pond Clarifier improves water
clarity, suppresses aquatic weeds, reduces
organic build-up, and removes odor. Professional
Strength Ultra Clear Biological Pond Clarifier
restores aquatic systems to natural health and
beauty. What does Professional Strength Ultra
Clear Biological Pond Clarifier consist of?
Ultra Clear Biological Pond Clarifier,
UltraClear Accelerator and water are combined in
a mixing container equipped with an aeration
device.
Regular Strength Ultra Clear Biological Pond
Clarifier: A liquid, nitrifying bacteria
beneficial for improving water quality and the
reduction of undesirable suspended solids in the
water. It also contains bacteria for the
reduction of nitrates and organic waste. It
performs nitrification.
Accelerator: A liquid concentrate of
bacteria cultures and nutrients. It enhances the
degradation of organic residue and
denitrification. UltraClear Accelerator restores
water clarity and reduces foul odors.
Mixing Container: Can be either a
6-gallon pail or a 55-gallon drum, depending on
the volume or the pond to be treated. Requires
air pump (as in a large aquarium pump), plastic
tubing for delivery of air to the mixing
container and air stones for diffusing air into
bubbles in the mixture of water, Accelerator &
Regular Strength Ultra Clear.
STEP #1: Determine the
Volume of the Pond
First, the volume of the pond must be calculated
or estimated in order to determine the bacterial
dosage for treatment. The dosage for
UltraClear Biological Pond
Clarifier-Professional Strength is based
on the volume of the pond to be treated. The
volume is measured in ACRE-FEET.
ACRE-FEET can be computed by first
calculating the surface area (in square feet) of
the pond. This can be estimated by multiplying
the length (in feet) times the width (in feet).
Next, compute the surface acres by dividing
the surface area in square feet (computed
above), by 42,500. For example, length of 150
feet multiplied times the width of 100 feet
equals 15,000 square feet (which is the surface
area). The computed surface area of 15,000
square feet is then divided by 42,500
(15,000/42,500), which equal 0.3 surface acres.
Next, compute ACRE-FEET by multiplying
surface acres, as computed above, times the
average depth of the pond. Example, with an
average depth of 6 feet for the above
computation, the volume (or ACRE-FEET) would be
6 feet times 0.3 surface acres which equals 1.8

STEP #2: Determine Dosage
for Bacteria
The following table list weekly dosage rates for
the pond to be treated. The dosage rate for
treatment is based on the ACRE-FEET of the pond
as computed above. Determine the dosage for
mixing & preparation, based on ACRE-FEET, from
the following table:

STEP #3: Mixing &
Application
The final step is to prepare the treatment for
application. Treatment is weekly. Based on the
dosage from the above table, add the specified
number of quart bottles or fractions of a quart
bottle for both UltraClear Biological Pond
Clarifier and UltraClear Accelerator to the
mixing container. Fill the container with water
after equal parts of both
Accelerator have been
added.
The appropriate container size (for mixing
and aeration) can be determined from the table
shown below. It is important that the correct
container size is utilized in order to achieve
the proper activation.

The mixed, liquid contents of bacteria and
water must be aerated for seven full days after
mixing. After aeration for seven days, the
contents should be poured into the pond to be
treated. The procedure should be repeated weekly
until the algae clears-up.
The term aeration refers to the process of
pumping air into the mixed solution of water and
bacteria (Biological Pond Clarifier and
Accelerator). The process is achieved with an
air pump and a plastic tube with air stones
connected to the ends. The air pump discharges
air through the tube, which is forced through
the porous glass block, which breaks the air
into many small bubbles. The stones should be
submerged to the bottom of the container when in
use.
The aeration process should take place in a
room where the temperature is maintained at 70
to 80 degrees Fahrenheit for the entire seven
days. A heating element (such as an aquarium
type heating element) can be utilized to
maintain the temperature in the mixing container
if the influent water or room conditions
require. Tap water can be used.
Is Professional Strength UltraClear Safe?
The bacteria included in Professional Strength
UltraClear are recognized by the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the
American Type Culture Collection (ATCC) as
Biosafety Level 1 bacteria. CDC and ATCC give
the following definition of Biosafety Level 1
bacteria:
'ATCC cultures and related products are
classified by biosafety level (BSL) in an effort
to provide guidance to the user on potential
risk. The classification is based on assessment
of the potential risk using U.S. Public Health
Service guidelines, with assistance provided by
ATCC scientific advisory committees. Those items
in BSL-1 have no known potential to cause
disease in humans or animals.'
